Melton Times article

Published Date: 20 May 2010

A Nottingham couple is appealing for Melton people to give support to Pablo's Horse Sanctuary.
Christine and Gerry Bell came across Pablo's while looking for a charity they could help as volunteers.

For the last month the pair have been giving up their weekends to help out with all sorts of jobs at the Long Clawson sanctuary, run by Carole Fielding, from mucking out stables and repairing fences to grooming horses and helping with the painting.

Gerry's employers, S&J Haulage in Melton, has also donated old pallets for fencing.

Mrs Bell said: "What a wonderful charity. All the horses have a story behind why they ended up there.

"There's Cherry, who was involved in a collision with a car and was left blind, then there's Jubail, an ex-racehorse who had an injury which meant he could no longer be ridden. The list is endless.

"But for Carole and the sanctuary, these and the other horses and ponies like them would have ended up dead.

"Carole is an inspiration. She keeps this place up and running on the bare minimum. She works so hard to give these horses and ponies a safe place to live, but she can't do it alone."

Pablo's received £250 last year for new barn doors from Make It Happen, the Melton Times' community chest sponsored by Ragdale Hall. The sanctuary currently cares for more than 60 horses and ponies, most of which can't be ridden because of their problems.

Anyone who can volunteer their time to help out at Pablo's or help by holding a fundraising event or by donating items is urged to call Carole Fielding on (01664) 562634.

A ladies' fashion show and sale for Pablo's will be held in Long Clawson Village Hall on June 4, 7.30pm. Call Carole for tickets
